MIXED MEDIA ON PAPER, ACRYLIC ON WOOD PANELS, GELLI PLATE
I like to be organized, make lists, check them off, make it a priority to accomplish what I set out to do. Expressing my thoughts through creativity is so fulfilling, which is one reason why I began the Days of the Week Series. The Days of the Week Series walks the observer through my weekly agenda day-by-day. When I had this idea, it inspired me to continue my art on a more regular basis. Expressing my goals for each day creating art allows me to work through and enjoy my week one day at a time.
After completing the mixed media on paper series in 2017, I decided to create the series with acrylic on wood panels in 2019. Six of the seven pieces are of that media. The one piece, Saturday, was inspired by a dear friend of mine, Linda. She has created for years using the Gelli plate to make so many amazing compositions, stenciling and printing on tissue and other types of paper.
This series also includes greeting cards and moleskin journals that represent the Days of the Week. The technique used for these pieces are the soft plate that is carved, then using a brayer to ink the original carved design and print it on cards and journals. Statements and titles are then added with ink pens. My motivation for making journals is for those who purchase one to use it to create their own ideas and goals to complete. The greeting cards are to share your love and kindness to others.
